Numbers Continue To Grow For Toyota
What is one of the largest car manufacturers in the automotive world?
If you guessed the Ford Motor Company, then you are most certainly wrong. After all, we all do know that Ford is currently struggling to keep the company afloat in the automotive waters. But sure, this vehicle manufacturer can be still considered as one of the largest and one of the most influential.
But in terms of the current trend and market share, the Toyota Motor Corporation has now moved from one of the unknown brands up to becoming the second largest manufacturer of cars and vehicles in the whole world. Experts in the field are currently predicting that it would only take a short span of time for this manufacturer to actually overtake the current holder of the top spot – General Motors.
Despite such a huge amount of success for Toyota, it seems like the company is still not contented with being second. And according to sources, the head honchos of the company are currently doing and creating plans of further expanding their line and of further bringing in more vehicles to the industry. Sources further inform that Toyota is looking at new plants that would manufacture, produce, and assemble vehicles, Toyota auto parts, accessories, and other Toyota products that would be sent to the United States market.
As per the company’s end, they have currently claimed that they are expecting to sell out over eight million units of their vehicles all around the globe. This number is not a prediction for 2007 but a prediction for this year. And if you do the Math, eight million Toyota vehicle units is nine per cent greater to the sales that the company reaped in last year. As per 2008, Toyota further states that they are targeting to sell around ten million units of their vehicles and cars. It seems like the huge amount of income and sales that the company is experiencing and enjoying can be mainly attributed to their huge impact in the United States auto market. And with their high sales in other markets, especially in their native country Japan, it would not be certainly surprising if the numbers continue to grow.
Buyouts Offered To Ford Employees
Ford Motor Co. will be offering buyouts or early retirement packages to its 75,000 hourly-paid employees. The offer will be available to said employees starting Oct. 16. Moreover, salaried workers are given more than one chance to accept a buyout. However, employees who are represented by the United Auto Workers union must have decided before Nov. 27. After said date, they can no longer claim the option to choose either one of eight buyout programs or stay on with Ford.
The programs to be offered by Ford comprise lump-sum payments of up to $140,000 as well as reimbursement of tuition besides the traditional early-retirement packages. The Dearborn-based automaker, which is famous for its best-selling Ford F-Series pickup parts and trucks, have started its educational workshops and career fairs. This is done to lend a hand to blue-collar workers in weighing available career options.
"We've put what we think is a very generous offer on the table," Martin Mulloy, Ford's vice president of labor relations, said Monday. "We want to make sure each employee has the best information available to make that decision."
Ford has earlier publicized its intention to cut approximately 30,000 hourly jobs and 14,000 salaried jobs by the end of 2008. Said cut will trim down Ford's total North American work force by 29 percent. From about 130,000, current work force, it will be reduced to about 92,000.
Mulloy refused to divulge the number of workers who are expected to take a buyout package. However, he said that the buyouts will take effect next year. Ford will begin with the briefing with employees on Tuesday. The briefing will be about their eligibility for a range of early retirement incentives. Mulloy also noted, "Most people will start leaving after the first of the year."
Those employees who will accept buyouts are expected to leave Ford by the end of September next year. This fact was announced to the media by Marcey Evans, spokeswoman of the automaker.
Twenty Somethings Get Help From HERO Bus
Everything we do is risky. From going to the office to simple playing with your children. Even driving or commuting can be considered risks. Plainly, this is because everything we do can bring harm to ourselves. We may overdo things that could bring harm to ourselves.
With this kind of philosophy in mind, a group of friends who were in their twenties and who hailed from the New Jersey area wanted to bring about a new kind of safety to the world. They worked together to bring about a new kind of driving and what they did to fulfill such a vision was to purchase their own bus. They did this because they thought that having their own bus would be the safest way to go about anywhere they would like to. The group is led by Nicholas Rosetti and he works as a mortgage planner.
Straight right out of eBay, the group bought a used passenger bus that could take in fifteen passengers inside. They bought it from a school system in Long Island and it cost them some $511 to own.
And who drives this bus, you may ask? The group is driven to various places by Craig Jancay, the designated driver of the bus. Jancay is also the roommate and co-worker as well of Rosetti. It does not matter where the group goes. The main thing here is that they do have got the HERO bus to take them there. Rosetti explains, “We had heard a lot of horror stories about drunk drivers and did not want to be part of the problem.”
What is amazing by this group’s simple act of just being safe has been already recognized by an organization. The group has also been commended in the process just because of their fresh and different way of being safe on the road. It was the HERO Campaign for Designated Drivers that gave the group the commendation. You see, the HERO Campaign is actually a national organization that aims to prevent drunk driving. And Bill Elliot, the founder of the mentioned campaign says, “The HERO Bus is an idea that can be duplicated around the country.”
In effect, safety on the road simply does not end when you do have got the best vehicle or the best safety features or the best Daewoo auto parts. What matters is that you do know what you are doing and you are aware that your main purpose while on the road is to be safe and keep others safe.
